I used to think you could only choose ONE thing to do with your life, after all, some people have what is called a "calling" or a "vocation" for a specific area. As I grew up I did not feel any of those, or rather did not know how to identify it. By the time I graduated, all I knew was that I was good at English, Spanish and Mathematics. So I chose by logic, my strengths would decide my career. I chose Electronics and I was exceptional in theory, the actual handywork, testing resistors, capacitors or transistors, was very challenging, especially because I was simply NOT interested in learning how to do it. While I was finishing with my Electronics degree, Windows 3.1 started appearing. I had been working with word processors for a few years because my mother's work involved computers so she had bought one early on. Back then you had to work with those green letters and had to know the function keys by heart in order to get anything done. You needed to insert one floppy for the OS and one for the Word Processor Software and yet another one to save your information. So Windows was a huge step up. Mom wanted to work with it, so we decided to buy a new computer and I promised to learn how to use Windows in order to teach her. At this point I also started dabbling with translations and got my certification. After that it was clear what my path was and I went on to get a degree in Informatics Engineering. Many years after I have done several other things, like selling crafts and e-commerce sites, dog training and many other attempts at businesses. But web development and translating still hold interest for me, mainly because I see so many of my colleagues having trouble with it and with the tools I have found in the past few years I find it easier than ever. So check out my Work section and the information regarding translating and Web Development, you might decide to work with me! |
